The family and friends of Julie and Dick Baker wish to invest in the education of a highly motivated, graduating high school senior currently attending school in the Rochester City School District pursuing a degree in science, technology, engineering, or math.
Your donation will make a direct impact on a Rochester area student's ability to further their education.
In 2024, we awarded $1,000 a year for four years to an East Upper High School senior who will attend University of Rochester to become a physician’s assistant.
This scholarship was created to honor the lives of Julie and Dick Baker, both beloved members of the Rochester community taken from us much too soon.
Julie and Dick studied electrical engineering in college and graduated from Clarkson University and Rochester Institute of Technology, respectively. They met while working at RG&E and married in 1989. They would go on to build a home in Fairport, NY and raise a son and three daughters within their large, loving extended families.
When Dick passed away from cancer in 1999 at the age of 47, Julie put all of her energy towards giving her family the best lives possible. She did just that until her sudden passing in January 2020 at the age of 58.
Julie’s family and work colleagues hosted the first annual Julie Baker Memorial Golf Tournament in August 2021 to raise funds for the Willow Domestic Violence Center here in Rochester. Shortly afterwards, the Julie and Dick Baker Memorial Fund, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, was formed in hopes of broadening the reach of their family and friends’ generosity, starting with this scholarship to help a student in need.
We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to our cause over the last three years. We will work to never let Julie and Dick’s love and light for their family, their friends, and each other dwindle.
